As part of the Droogfontein Solar Power’s ‘67 minutes in Honour of Mandela Day’, the Solar Plant has chosen to give back to the community of Phutanang by providing much needed equipment to Tlhokomelo Day Care Centre.
“This small day care centre in Phutanang, provides essential care to toddlers and babies in the community, so we are pleased to be able to lend a helping hand and hopefully make a difference in their lives,” said Mpho Makhetha, Plant Manager of Droogfontein Solar Power.
Equipment provided to the crèche included cots for babies and younger toddlers, as well as blankets and mattresses, and much needed first aid kits. The practitioners will also be attending skills workshops for teacher, principals and governing body members to improve the crèche’s management.
Tlhokomelo Day Centre is owned and headed by Susan Lebone, who saw the need to care for young children in her community almost 10 years ago. She initially operated the day care from her home before being given access to land by the Sol Plaatjie Municipality.
“We are pleased to be able to assist Mrs Lebone to offer quality early learning opportunities and a safe and stimulating environment for young children whilst their parents are at work,” concluded Makhetha.
