Droogfontein Solar Power & Dept of Education Developing Young Minds

Droogfontein Solar Power has signed a three year bursary agreement with the Department of Education (DoE) and will spend over R380 000 on this Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme aimed at communities within Kimberley and surrounding areas. The funding covers the cost of 20 ECD Grade R practitioner’s bursaries to study for a Diploma in Early Childhood Development NQF Level 6, with the North West University. “The Droogfontein Solar Power funding has allowed the DoE to increase the number of bursaries from 130 to 180; included in this are 30 bursaries sponsored by De Aar Solar Power. The province is particularly excited as these practitioners will be the first to respond to the Minister of Educations appeal that by 2019 all Grade R practitioners should meet the NQF Level 6 qualification requirements,” said the Director for ECD Department of Education, Palesa Thulo.

“The 100% attendance of lectures by the practitioners is indicative of their commitment to successfully complete their studies. Quality learning programmes in Grade R are closely monitored and we are pleased to see that the ECD Centre’s have already shown improvement in lesson planning as well as other areas,” concluded Thulo.

Participating Early Childhood Development Centres include: Goitlamela ECD; Hulahoop Preschool; Mateleng ECD; Holpan Day Care Centre; Waterworks Primary School; Galeshewe Educare Centre; St Boniface Preschool; El Shaddai ECD; Shalom Day Care Centre; Kagiso Day Care for Disabled Children; Redirile Creche; Roodepan ECD; Sivuyile ECD Centre; Lesedi Day Care Centre ; and Helen Joseph Primary.
